I'm an archivist... it truly is great to see these online so that they can be read. But the scan quality... yikes, I am really surprised that 1) the archive charged for this service and 2) did such a bad job. I will say that the Sierra Museum is always looking for Softline, Softalk and other vintage computer magazines to truly preserve these magazines.

Excellent start to a wonderful magazine. The first issue defined the look and feel for the entire run. Almost all of the pieces were in place. The "Exec " article, the human-interest stories, the regular columns on DOS and assembly-language programming, and the Trade & Marketalk sections. The only section that wasn't in the first issue was the "Top 30", because they didn't have the data yet!

(I have crowd-checked both the online version and the PDF, and both formats look good).

I m so pleased and proud to see this first issue of Softalk magazine go up in the Internet Archive as part of The Softalk Apple Project collection. As project co-founder with my soulmate/wife, Timlynn Babitsky, we funded the scan of this collection into the Archive as a 25th wedding anniversary gift to each other. :-) :-)

To make this gift to ourselves and others extra special, we hand-delivered the 48 issues of Softalk to the Midwest Regional Scanning Center and were able to tour the facility with Center Manager Jeff Sharpe. In fact, as a guest scanner, I was privileged to scan this first issue issue of Softalk into the Archive.org.
